The super eagles will today face hosts Senegal in Dakar in the first semi final of the U-23 AFCON as they battle for a spot in the finals of the competition as well as a ticket to participate in the Olympic football event slated to hold at Rio next year.
It could be recalled that the two teams have encountered each other prior to this encounter; the first meeting been at the AFCON event held in Abuja, Nigeria in 2003, 8 years after saw the Teranga cubs win the Nigerian team popularly referred to as the dream team VI in a 2-1 win in morrocco, their third meeting was 2 years later in Congo Brazzaville in September which saw the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
It is important to note that Senegal has won all 3 matches played and Nigeria remain unbeaten in their campaign, securing only a draw to reach the semi finals
While speaking with Chizoba Amaefule he assured Nigerians of the increase in confidence level, he had this to say
“Everybody is working harder and ready to do more. The semi-final against Senegal is not going to an easy game, but it’s a game we must win to actualise our dream of coming here, which is to win the competition and qualify for the Olympics.
“I am ready for the game and my teammates are all ready to win the game.”
With the recent twist of events in the cause of the meeting of these two african giants, spectators are of the opinion that Nigeria could be at the top of the food chain today; please leave your comments and prayers for the team.
